The FEM Builder interface to NX currently supports NX 12.0. Older versions of FEM Builder support older versions of NX as follows:
- FEM Builder 2019-08-20 through current – NX 12.0
- FEM Builder 2017-07-05 through 2019-05-15 – NX 11.0
- FEM Builder 2016-08-29 through 2017-07-05 – NX 10.0
- FEM Builder 2014-08-20 through 2016-06-13 – NX 9.0
- FEM Builder up through 2014-06-27 - NX 8.5
The specific version of NX must be installed on the same machine as FEM Builder, and the NXBIN directory under that NX installation must appear in your PATH environment variable (before the NXBIN directory from any other versions of NX) so that FEM Builder can load the correct NX DLLs.
The NX interface should be backwards-compatible in that the current version of FEM Builder installed alongside NX 12.0 should be capable of reading a part file that was produced with an earlier version of NX.
Be aware that NX and FEM Builder represent geometry in fundamentally different ways, so a translation of geometry must occur when reading the NX parts. This often causes gaps in the resulting geometry. FEM Builder is incapable of creating surfaces or volumes with gaps, so the translated part may be incomplete. The translation of FEM entities is much more complete, so we recommend meshing the part in NX and then import the resulting FE model into FEM Builder.
