FEM Builder stores Hero results, including the grid state (think nodes and elements), for each time step. Right now, the position of the nodes at each time step is stored as a displacement result. This was done to leverage the capability already in FEM Builder post processing for displaying structural results in a deformed state. Unfortunately, it has also caused some confusion when displaying ablating models. The default in FEM Builder is to display node position in its deformed position in post processing views, but in its undeformed position in model view. There is a “Deformed” tab on the post-processing dialogs with a check box that controls whether to draw nodes in their deformed position.

There is a similar check box that controls how nodes are drawn in the model view. Below is a model view of an ablating model with undeformed node position. (The surface should not have a dip in the middle.)

From the menu, select View->Display Settings. On the Fem tab, check deformed check box to display the model view with deformed node positions.

Here is the resulting model display… Nice!
