Restarting a Hero analysis can be tricky, especially with surface recession. The key to this is to understand how FEM Builder saves and manages the associated grid state for each result set.
Hero always processes the original grid when determining the ablated grid at each time step. FEM Builder saves the original grid in Step=1, Inc=0, so that a restarted Hero analysis can use the same original grid.
This process is more complicated if you want to modify the grid or a boundary condition at the restart time.
Here are the steps to follow:
-
Read Hero result file
-
If you want to modify grid or boundary condition, set model time to desired restart time and make modifications as needed.
-
Set model time to first model time. This is likely Inc=0 and Time=0.0.
-
Write Hero model and update the start/stop time and set the non-uniform initial condition to the restart time. This will also include modified grid and boundary conditions.
- Run Hero
